Central - Hamilton RoomA celebration of creative music from around the world.
Celebrate creative music at the Something Else! Festival at HPL with world-renowned musicians Elisa Thorn (Vancouver-based harpist) and Two Pianos, No Rodeo (Bob Wiseman and Mike Boguski, past and present pianists from Blue Rodeo). Presented in partnership with Zula Presents.
Bob Wiseman and Mike Boguski are two of Canada’s most unpredictable keyboard minds. They take turns dismantling and reimagining a solo piano set. One piano. Two artists. Zero cowboy hats.
Bob Wiseman is a founding member of Blue Rodeo. He is a punk pianist and lo-fi provocateur. Think Monk meets Burroughs at a Toronto dive bar. Expect sound collage, biting satire and sonic left turns. Nothing’s off limits.
Mike Boguski is the current Blue Rodeo pianist. He is an ambient soul explorer, master of restraint and reverie. He uses a piano as a landscape and melody as a memory, creating quiet storms and cinematic swells. It's like musical cliff jumping.
Elisa Thorn is a versatile harpist, vocalist and composer who has emerged as a sought-after figure in the Canadian creative music landscape. She is renowned for her distinctive and contemporary approach to the harp. Thorn’s original compositions weave together elements of folk, post-rock, jazz, classical and indie music. They are driven by two primary artistic goals: to create music that balances abstraction with accessibility and sensitivity with boldness.
Central Library
The first Hamilton Public Library building opened on September 16, 1890 by the Earl and Countess of Aberdeen on the north side of Main Street West. In 1913, a new main library opened. This building was replaced in 1980 by Central Library, at the current location on York Boulevard.
In 2010, Central Library re-opened after approximately 18 months of renovations. Central Library opened with a newly revitalized first floor, which includes a Community Living Room that takes advantage of natural light. The Ontario Library Association honoured Central in 2012 with an Architectural and Design Transformation award.
