The Hamilton Reads 2019 title In Search of the Perfect Singing Flamingo by Claire Tacon includes a cast of animatronic creatures who sing and dance at a children's party restaurant. Starr, an adult with Williams Syndrome, and her father Henry, who repairs the animatronics, go on a roadtrip to obtain the final character for their home theatre.
Hamilton Reads 2019 Illustration Contest invites you to draw the characters. Join a drawing group at your local branch to work on your creation. Staff can document your creation and submit your illustrations to the contest, or feel free to submit anytime before November 15 to arts@hpl.ca or drop off at your local branch. Or join the group to work on your own projects and a friendly conversation.

The first Hamilton Public Library building opened on September 16, 1890 by the Earl and Countess of Aberdeen on the north side of Main Street West. In 1913, a new main library opened. This building was replaced in 1980 by Central Library, at the current location on York Boulevard.
In 2010, Central Library re-opened after approximately 18 months of renovations. Central Library opened with a newly revitalized first floor, which includes a Community Living Room that takes advantage of natural light. The Ontario Library Association honoured Central in 2012 with an Architectural and Design Transformation award.
