Dr. Anna Moro at McMaster University reviews some of the numerous reasons for the complex orthography (spelling) of modern English. After a brief journey through the linguistic history of English, the talk will present lessons learned over the past decade regarding teaching reading and writing from an innovative university bridging program for English-language learners at McMaster.
Dr. Moro is an Associate Professor of Linguistics, Associate Director of the ARiEAL Research Centre, and founding Director of McMaster's English Language Development. Presented by the Hamilton Association for the Advancement of Literature, Science and Art.
